Mountain Cape Cod Renovation

Project type:
Full Service

Location:
Golden, CO

Upon discovering this property, the homeowners were immediately captivated by its picturesque location, natural surroundings, and the rustic charm of its cedar-clad Cape Cod architecture. However, they found themselves transported back to the 1970s upon encountering the home's original finishes, which included avocado green shag carpeting, gold-flecked laminate countertops, and floor-to-ceiling mirrored walls. While these features possessed a certain…nostalgic appeal, they did not align with the new homeowners' aesthetic preferences. Moreover, the layout of the home was disjointed and outdated, featuring two separate staircases leading to three bedrooms, a formal dining room, and notably lacking an en-suite Master Bath.

Folkhouse embarked on a comprehensive redesign aimed at enhancing functionality while respecting the original Cape Cod style and the initial owner's vision. The project involved nearly gutting the interior to introduce modern amenities and a harmonious blend of classic Colonial and Mountain West influences in both finishes and furnishings. Original architectural elements such as the narrow-plank oak floors were preserved and meticulously refurbished where necessary. Additionally, Folkhouse preserved significant features like the original stone fireplace wall and repurposed salvaged materials, such as pine posts from the living room, transforming them into a mantelpiece for the Sitting Room fireplace.

Recognizing the homeowners' passion for cooking, Folkhouse expanded and updated the kitchen, incorporating a petite kitchen island, a sizable cast iron sink, and a six-burner range to meet their culinary needs.

In one of the bedrooms, an outdated closet configuration was reimagined into what is now affectionately referred to as "the Book Nook," a cozy enclave designed for reading and storage.

The previously shared second-floor bathroom was transformed into a luxurious en-suite Master Bath featuring a soaking tub and a distinctive shower "room" equipped with an atomizing showerhead for water conservation.

Anticipated to be their "forever home," this project by Folkhouse promises to bring lasting delight to its occupants for many years to come.
